Winner: Best Residential Extension - Gaveston Road, Warwickshire
In the heart of Warwickshire on Gaveston Road, we teamed up with Jeremy Lim Architects to turn an ordinary house into something truly special. The project exceeded our expectations, redefining modern living and earning us recognition at the prestigious LABC Build It Awards.
For the past few decades, Harban Redwood (formerly Ian Harban Consulting Engineers) has set the standard for excellence in structural and civil engineering.
Our long-standing collaboration with Jeremy Lim Architects is also rooted in our shared commitment to excellence in addressing complex architectural challenges and producing exceptional results for clients all over the world. That being said, the project on Gaveston Road was a unique opportunity for us to collaborate, share ideas, and leverage our strengths against a challenging yet intriguing brief.
From the start, the project presented unique challenges, among them being the integration of a contemporary extension into an existing structure while preserving its character and functionality.
The focal point of the project was the creation of a light, airy, and open-plan kitchen and dining area. This demanded a delicate balance between architectural innovation and structural integrity. Our team worked extremely hard to devise an approach that not only satisfied the client’s vision but also adhered closely to rigorous safety protocols and engineering requirements.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this project was our ability to seamlessly blend traditional craftsmanship with modern design principles. So although it currently exudes a noticeable modern ambiance, the extension also honours the architectural heritage of the surrounding area.
As the project neared completion, anticipation grew among our team. We knew we had created something special, something worthy of recognition. Our excitement reached new heights when we received the LABC Build It award for the Best Residential Extension in the West Midlands. We were also invited to the National Awards Ceremony at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane. This provided us with a valuable opportunity to celebrate our achievements with esteemed industry peers and professionals.
Looking ahead, we’re excited about applying our expertise to projects of a similar calibre. Our involvement in the Gaveston Road project has not only enhanced our skills but also reaffirmed our belief that architecture and engineering can work together to make a lasting impression on the built environment.
Ultimately, this award is a testament to the Harban Redwood way of excellence. It serves as a reminder of how impactful architecture can be for us and society at large
