Description:

The Watermark project involved the sensitive renovation and upgrade of an existing boathouse located on the River Dart, within a constrained marine environment and subject to statutory approvals.

We were appointed as Principal Designer, Structural Engineer and Project Manager, providing a fully integrated service from concept through to completion.

Our scope included:

Principal Designer (CDM):

Led health and safety planning throughout the design phase.

Identified and mitigated construction and in-use risks associated with working over water and within a tidal environment.

Structural Engineering:

Assessment of the existing boathouse structure and foundations.

Design of structural alterations and strengthening works to accommodate the renovation.

Detailed construction drawings and technical specifications tailored to a marine setting.

Marine Liaison & Consents:

Acted as key technical liaison with the Marine Authority and other statutory bodies.

Supported the client in securing the necessary approvals and ensuring compliance with river and marine constraints.

Project Management & Contractor Support:

Day-to-day coordination between client, contractor and stakeholders.

Provided construction stage technical support, resolving site queries and developing bespoke construction details to suit the live river environment.

Assisted with contractor management to maintain programme, quality and safety.

The project required careful coordination between design, statutory bodies and construction teams to deliver a high-quality refurbishment while respecting the challenges of a tidal riverside location. Our integrated role ensured that design intent, buildability and safety were aligned throughout, resulting in a successful and compliant transformation of this riverside asset.
