Description:
We project managed the demolition of a large dwelling in the Cotswolds as part of a wider redevelopment scheme.
The existing property was traditionally constructed with thick stone walls, deep foundations and a stone slate roof. The works required careful sequencing due to ecological constraints, the need to reclaim materials and periods of poor weather.
In addition to managing the demolition contractor, we were responsible for the structural design and review of temporary works to ensure the building remained stable throughout the demolition process. This included assessing load paths, sequencing the removal of structural elements and agreeing propping and support arrangements to manage the risks associated with the heavy masonry construction.
Our role included liaison with Building Control and other statutory bodies, coordination of ecologists, implementation of change control in response to unforeseen conditions and delays, and oversight of the careful stripping and storage of reclaimed stone slates.
Despite challenging ground conditions, weather disruption and ecology-related stoppages, the demolition was completed safely and in line with the agreed scope.
