2024 – An Excellent Year for Harban Redwood

2024 Has been a pivotal year for Harban Redwood. With the successful acquisition of new commercial and residential projects, the expansion of our team, and our relocation to a new office, we have made great progress in our growth and development over the past year, and further strengthened our expertise in delivering innovative and reliable structural engineering solutions. Here’s a recap of our key moments and achievements over the past year.

Relocation to New Banbury Office

The relocation of our Banbury team to a new office was a significant milestone. More than a change of location, it symbolised our commitment to growth and innovation in the construction industry. In this critical move for Harban Redwood, the new office is a hub for collaboration and creativity between us and our clients as we expand our capabilities to provide tailored structural engineering solutions.

Rebranding: A Bold Step Into the Future

We entered 2024 as Ian Harban Consulting Engineers, and rebranded to Harban Redwood in September, marking our commitment to development and ambitions for further expansion. We have also grown our presence on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, where we have started to share informative blogs, updates, and industry insights. Our proactive approach allows us to reach a broader audience and better showcase our structural engineering expertise to new and existing audiences.

Showcasing Some of Our Favourite Projects in 2024

Our 2024 portfolio featured some exceptional projects, where we have continued to demonstrate our structural engineering expertise and innovative approach.

·   Luxury Residential Building, Stratford-Upon-Avon

For this luxury, 3-storey new-build, we worked closely with the design architects to produce a collaborative and integrated design. The residence features six bedrooms, an open-plan games room, a double garage, a mezzanine office, and a deep basement with a pool. The trapezoidal prism roof shape and vaulted ceiling, featuring a skylight, presented a unique structural challenge, which we addressed with cranked steel beams and a large ring beam forming a tie around the eaves.

·   X-Sign Expansion of Industrial Unit in Brackley

As a technical partner to X-Sign, we supported their expansion due to ongoing growth by assisting with planning discharge, tendering, contractor selection, construction detailing, contract management, and the structural design of the extension and its piled foundations.

· Luxury Residential Building, Leamington Spa

In addition to this building’s structural and architectural excellence, we take pride in the sustainability of our design. Over 10 tonnes of recycled steel were incorporated into the main structure, demonstrating how innovation and sustainable engineering can set a new benchmark for environmentally conscious design and construction.

·  Seaside Holiday Let Complex, St. Ives, Cornwall

A flagship project for our Cornwall office, the conversion of this residential building to a luxury holiday let complex has been one of our most elaborate projects. It has provided us a great opportunity to showcase our expertise in structural design, as well as our appreciation for architectural excellence.

·  Luxury Residential Building in Gloucestershire

During this project, our Cheltenham office worked closely with Studio Spicer Architects to procure a design for a luxury residence which features two bedrooms, a master bedroom, cinema room, gym, and a yoga studio amongst many other amenities. The site also contains an agricultural barn, and some stables, both of which were also designed by Harban Redwood.

Emerging Industry Trends & New Ventures

In 2024, we positioned ourselves as experts in two key structural engineering fields:

Blending the Traditional With Innovation – Barn Conversions

In 2024, we conducted more structural surveys than in previous years, demonstrating our expertise in supporting Class Q Permitted Development projects and planning applications for barn conversions.

Developing Sustainable Drainage Design

Building on our success as drainage experts, we developed a CPD presentation on drainage design in 2024. This initiative not only showcased our expertise but also expanded our client base by promoting our services. In 2025, we look forward to continuing our roadshow and sharing our expertise in drainage design.

Building a Stronger Team for the Future

2024 Saw the growth of our team grew with the addition of the following talented individuals:

New Staff

  • Matthew Allen joined as Technical Director and brings extensive experience as he leads our structural engineering projects.
  • Andrew Rothwell started his tenure as a Graduate Engineer, bringing fresh energy and ideas.
  • Joanne Baker took on the role of Executive Assistant, boosting our operational efficiency.

Returning Staff

We welcomed Nais Regazzo, a sponsored student who returned to Harban Redwood for the summer before starting her master’s year. In 2025, we remain committed to supporting emerging talent, and look forward to welcoming Nais back after she completes her degree.
